A hair bead holds no utility—it adorns. In this way, I consider the pony bead a cultural signifier of care and attention between caretaker and child. Woven out of pony beads, a common hair accessory for canerows, the text and imagery in this collection of work is pulled from poems, 00s visual icons, and affirmations from my mother.
